Abstract: Animal experiments in laboratories show that UV radiation suppresses the immune system. Research is under way to confirm the believe of many immunologists that humans are affected in the same manner. Because UV radiation is believed to affect only the cells in sun-exposed body parts – skin and eyes – the cellular immune system is the likely victim of radiation damage. Consequently, organisms gain easy access to your body via the skin. Measles, chicken pox, herpes and HIV viruses find it easier to proliferate in radiation-damaged cells. Animal and preliminary human studies found that even latent viruses can be activated by UV radiation.
